Communication Breakdown BEGINS!

Ahhh yeah, curated by HB homegirl Summer Rain. Check it tonight from 6-8pm...

Communication Breakdown, a joint exhibition and collaborative effort between Edlin Gallery, New York and Creative Growth Art Center's(Oakland, CA) new Paris venue, Galerie Impaire. Dates for New York are September 13 - October 25, 2008 with an opening reception Saturday, September 13th from 6 to 8 PM. Paris dates are September 24 - November 2, vernissage on September 24th from 6 to 8 PM.

Curated by Blain VandenBerg and Phillip Jones, the show explores abstraction as a shifting notion - both formally and conceptually, with works by artists who employ diverse methods of reductivism and bricolage. Their practice of meticulous subtraction or obsessive layering results in disorienting collisions between manuscript and mechanical type, audile and visual perception, literacy and non-literacy, and renders communication chaotic and vague.

The artists selected range in varying degrees from being engaged or detached with the contemporary art community. Their eclectic uses of characters, materials and methodologies lead to elliptical readings of their compositions and elicit conversations about intention, self-awareness and context.

Participating Artists: Tauba Auerbach, Beverly Baker, Paul Butler, James Castle, Joy Drury Cox, Dana Frankfort, Felix Gonzalez-Torres & Christopher Wool, Zach Houston, Matt Keegan, Louise Lawler, Dwight Mackintosh, Dan Miller, Yuichi Saito, Maya Schindler, Harald Stoffers, Stan Vanderbeek and Melvin Way.
