"Holy shit, that's Steve Olson outside the shop looking like Elvis!" exclaims Bubbie. I look out the window, no one is there. Elvis then enters the building, holy shit it is Steve Olson the legendary Santa Cruz/Skull Skates historically rad cultural elder! He approaches the counter and chooses italian beer over german since he's 'been into italian women lately.' F yeah! Early kine shredders represent!

Explosion In Progress

Come see the show happening at Secret Project Robot, Explosion in Progress. There is a coyote, Liz Nelson, a war situation, a cloud city and two artists living in a military pup tent. Since we arrived from Beijing a week ago, this explosion of color has been expanding inside the gallery. We have been experiencing America just from this place. Hope to see you.

The official opening is this Saturday, October 27th, at 6:00 pm. Secret Project Robot is located at 210 Kent Avenue, corner of Metropolitan. Entrance on River Street. The show will be open till November 7th, after...the implosion will start and close on November 10th.

Star Above The Manger

Booyah! Hollow Huey in town this morn sharing his love and stoke with those who reached out. It ain't OB but it still tubes! Speaking of that dreaded back-breaking beachie, Mr. Mandala wanted to clarify a few things from yesterdaze post:

"O.B. was well overhead and offshore and perfect, with twin bikini models on the beach playing frisbee.....in slow motion..."

Bikinis in October in SF!?!? RADICAL!

While we're talking about California, the new Jason Baffa/Mark Jeremias film ONE CALIFORNIA DAY will be screened on November 6th at 7:30 and 9:30pm at the Anthology Film Archives: 32 Second Ave, NYC (212) 505-5181. Many of you have already seen the trailer check it here if not: http://www.onecaliforniaday.com/trailer.php

Much strength of faith and hope to everyone in California during this trying period of natural disaster.

StubBorn in the USA

Mani called this morn to rub in that Ocean Beach was overhead and glassy once again. Yeah yeah yeah, we had overhead waves these weekend too (and more on tap.) Hold it now, LI ain't OB that's for sure but certain places do possess OB-like characteristics. Then again, not even braaaaa, ha! Anyways getting back to it, Mani was talking about pushing his sub-6 foot stubbies in up to double-overhead macking surf. Hmm, about as big as it gets here. Something to think about next time you're pulling a board from the rafters or rack...

Wave Warrior Weekend 64

Yo yo yo, fresh off an excellent weekend of unusually uncrowded surf and it looking like more on the way! Thanks again for everyone's love last Thursday night at the Weisbecker/Zen and Zero event. Speaking of scandal, came across this in today's NY Post:

October 22, 2007 -- BUNKER Spreckels - the hunky surf champ and stepson of Clark Gable who turned into a debauched jet-setter - is hot property 30 years after his death of a heart attack at age 27. Not only has Taschen published a new book about Spreckels' life of excess - he claims to have "nailed 64 chicks in one week" - but several Hollywood studios are interested in doing a biopic. It certainly would be colorful. In "Bunker Spreckels: Surfing's Divine Prince of Decadence," Art Brewer and C.R. Stecyk III reveal an unpublished interview with Spreckels. "I suppose I was the epitome of that whole Rolling Stones type of philosophy, Do as much as you can now because you may be dead tomorrow," he is quoted. Spreckels - whose mom, Kay, was Gable's fifth wife - also says he met Satan in 1970 while under the influence of peyote, pot and hash.

Been amping on things flow with the new Maya Hayuk book, Just Good Vibes which features the mural-ing of Molluskine and the seeeekest drawings, paintings and such. Fellow SF-rad chick Clare E. Rojas also has a new book called, Blue Deer and Red Fox which is killer-kute for children and adults alike.

UPS Ron just rolled up with some new DVD's:

Invasion From Planet C (Mike Black)
Filthy Habits (Billabong/Weaver and co.)
Pump (Billabong/Weaver, Wills, Neu and co.)
The Cosmic Children (Hal Jepson)
Super Session (Hal Jepson)
A Matter Of Style (Steve Soderberg)
5 Summer Stories (Mac/Freeman)
Morning Of The Earth (Alby Falzon)

See ya'll down the line...

a Newspaper on the Subway

Managed a jones-fighting super small, barely there kine session on Friday with lord Bubbie, hallucinating wavos in the west. In need of some surfy visualization, a couple of rare DVD's appeared this morn:

George Greenough's 1972 cult classic 'Crystal Voyager' w/'Echoes' short scored by Pink Floyd. Imported from OZ* Essential Pick!

Dick Hoole's 1975 classic 'Tubular Swells' featuring Fitzy, MR, Rabbit, Shaun, MP, McCabe, PT, also w/ 'A Day in the life of Wayne Lynch' short! For all goofy surf encyclos.

Jack McCoy's 80's epic 'Stormriders' featuring rad footy of Jim Banks, Lynch and Maurice Cole also w/ 'Kong Island.' Know Elko!

Calling ya'll upside down shredders: Sticky Bumps ultra-sticky 'TOUR' series wax is in. Mad tacky yo...

The Weisbecker book-signing/Zen and Zero screening has been re-scheduled to this Thursday the 18th at 8:30 pm! Brought to you by Surfrider NYC and Mollusk.

Shackle Me Not

Jon Bless (red shirt, red socks, red Nike's) of Moa Anbessa Sound System stopped by last nite with the raddest gift for the shop, this launch ramp below. The night fell upon us with Tecates and later Black and Tan's courtesy of local style-bandit Everard. Later inside it appeared as if the MP's foil was closer to that of a Liddle than initially experienced. Aloha in the city, Aloha from the city...

Kountry Fresh Eggs

Three of those highly sought after Fineline eggs arrived this arvo, a 7'2", 7'4", and an 8'0". Strictly single, these boards are volan-glassed and built to last. Also in that box from Mr. Hilbers was a 6'6" MP shred-sled. MP, you know the guy who warned us about riding twinnies and mixing tabac with kaya. Speaking of which, today is Hollahide's B-Day. Yo Drifta-Grom represent!

Rain In The Cast

Hmm shit, it's looking like rain Thursday night for the Weisbecker book signing/Zen and Zero screening. As a result we've designated a rain date which will be next Thursday October 18th, same time same place.

We'll make the call tomorrow afternoon and let ya'll know. A part of us considered being super cavalier about it and holding it regardless of rain but what makes these screenings so enjoyable is the outdoor vibe, bbq, and slappy clinic. The sand is (beneath) the concrete.

Anyways, rolled up this arvo to a small batch of Swifts.--A fully bladed 5'9" militant green-tinted Daniel Thompson flying fish w/signed Geppy's arrived along with a 6'0" white-tinted Andrew Kidman diamond tail. China Ty's (who might need a new nickname now) 6'6" Mitzven quad was also in that box, just in time for the recently cancelled knish-kontest.

Honey Bear was in town from SF by way of Boston, shredding the proverbial gnar while Curious Gabe happened upon us and considered lighting options and mic-sound. Bubbie was out of the Conde clutch, terroring the streets on the Kessler Soul Artists of (the f-ing real) Zoo York in-haus skate. Get caned!

Getting Along With Everyone

Surfrider NYC and Mollusk Surf Shop Present:

An Evening with Allan Weisbecker
Thursday October 11th 8pm

Allan Weisbecker, author of 'In Search of Captain Zero' and 'Cosmic Banditos' (both in development as feature films with Sean Penn and John Cusack, respectively) will be signing his new book: Can't You Get Along With Anyone? A Writer's Memoir and a Tale of a Lost Surfer's Paradise'.

"As his sanity, health and existence are simultaneously mangled, Weisbecker somehow manages to solve a murder, wrestle the dark side of paradise, and wind up on multiple third world hit lists. . . Can't You Get Along With Anyone? is a necessity for anyone who believes truth is indeed stranger than fiction. . . an entrancing, thoughtful and darkly humorous calamity."
-Surfer Magazine

Michael Ginthor's documentary "Zen and Zero" featuring Mr. Weisbecker will be screened in conjunction with the book signing.

Coney Island Lager, street-side BBQ, and after hours rad skate jam too!
